Abbie

My name is Abbie and I am currently training to be a counsellor working with children and young people (MSc). Throughout my time at school I have developed sufficient knowledge in Psychology, Maths and English through a degree in Psychology (2:1), an A in Psychology A-Level, 7 in Maths GCSE, 8 in English Language GCSE. I have spent a lot of time finding effective study strategies and learning how to ace exam papers and I have developed strong academic writing skills. I can help with a wide range of skills from working towards exceeding in your GCSEs and A-Levels, writing dissertations and other academic papers, and developing knowledge to pass assessments at a primary/secondary level. I can help with Psychology, Maths and English. I find working with children and young people very rewarding and I would love to be a part of someone’s journey to feeling a sense of achievement and succeeding in their goals.

Tutoring Experience

Whilst I haven’t formally spent time teaching in a classroom setting, I have experience working with children on a 1:1 basis in a counselling setting. As part of this journey I have learnt a lot about how to support young people and have learnt how to build a professional relationship to support them to reach their full potential. A big part of counselling is educating young people about mental health and so I have developed teaching skills in this way. As part of working as a counsellor, a skill which is highly valuable for tutoring is adapting my style and approach to meet a child’s needs and goals. I also have experience working in a school in a 1:1 capacity with children with SEN needs.

Tutoring Approach

My approach as a tutor is collaborative, supportive and constructive. My aim is to empower students to develop ways of learning which suit their needs and interests, and building confidence in the student’s ability to learn and achieve their goals. I will always consider the student’s personal goals and their style of learning when working together and will accommodate a productive environment that suits their needs. We will work together to identify gaps in knowledge and areas of strength to ensure our time is the most useful it can be together.
