I am the Subject Leader for Physics in a London Secondary School. I enjoy exercising and love reading up on everything Science, especially astronomy.
I have been teaching in secondary schools in England and Wales since 2015. I've taught in a range of schools from Comprehensive's to Grammar Schools. I am currently working as the Subject Leader for Physics where I am focusing on improving the exam preparation of the Science department and training new members of staff. Throughout this time I have tutored many students and helped them to achieve the grades they wanted.
My approach to tutoring is centred around Socratic questioning and exam practice. I always start with a discussion looking into the concept at hand and question the tutee to see how deep I can push their understanding. When I am happy that the tutee has learnt enough to approach exam questions, I will then move onto exam practice. This starts with me working through a past exam question and modelling how to approach and answer the questions. I will then assist the tutee in answering their own question before allowing them to answer a question without assistance. We will then discuss how confident they are in their response and assess their answer to see how they have done. Analysing their answer provides instantaneous feedback for the tutee and allows me to take notes and build a picture of where they need the most help to achieve the grade they want.
