I'm Adam and I strongly believe that education is one of the most important things in the world. Having a tutor growing up supported my passion for learning, developed my understanding, and helped me secure a place at Durham University. It's here where I wanted to continue to fulfill my passion of educating by pursuing a career in teaching. Whilst Primary Education is my chosen degree, I have a great passion for English, Geography and ICT. Aside from one-to-one tuition, I can support students to write their personal statements and help in interview preparations. I am prepared to offer tips, feedback and skills for personal statement writing, review UCAS applications and can conduct mock interviews for those interested. I am confident in teaching a range of subjects across different academic levels.

I take an encouraging and reassuring approach to tutoring, because a lack of confidence can be a driving factor in educational struggles, so I try my best to promote confidence at every stage. You can rely on my ability to teach, encourage, remain organised and provide information to aid both exam capability and wider understanding in all my subject fields. I have had my own academic success and am excited to aid others in their educational endeavours, development and understanding. From my achievements at school and receiving 5 university offers, to studying at Durham University, I can pass on knowledge to help students achieve their goals.

Tutoring Experience

At A-Level, I chose to pursue Geography, ICT and Economics. I felt that these subjects would provide a breadth of learning content which I could apply to my choice of degree and life! My A-Level achievements produced 5 university offers where I ultimately chose Durham University to join the Education cohort. Having pursued a career in Education, supporting others to reach their potential is something I have a huge passion for. I have three years of experience working in primary schools, so I have an up to date understanding of the content and effective learning strategies that will help students succeed.

Tutoring Approach

I engage with a lot of past paper questions in my sessions, so that students can practise their exam technique whilst simultaneously revising the content of their subjects! This is a really worthwhile technique to use during tuition, because as the tutor, I can examine their approach and their work to see where improvements could be made (in terms of exam technique, structure of responses and content understanding). In areas where students are struggling with content, I aid them in unpicking ideas and working on their understanding; for this I often use mind maps and spider diagrams to push their understanding and help them to make connections between different ideas and areas of their subject matter. I always ask my students what they feel they need to focus the most on, so that I can ensure my lessons are directly tailored to their needs, and ensure my lesson plans are always updated if these needs change or evolve over time!
