Hi, my name is Akin. I am a passionate retired chemistry teacher with 40 years of classroom expertise. I have consistently achieved outstanding results at both GCSE and A level Chemistry. I am very proud of my record, my students usually achieving well above their expected predictions and at least a grade higher than the national average for comparable schools. I have helped numerous students over the years get into prestigious universities, including Oxford and Cambridge. Although retired I have continued to tutor, but this is my first time through an agency. I feel my patient and thorough approach is appreciated by my students and I often receive excellent feedback about the clarity of my explanations.
I have an enhanced DBS check from my last Job.
I have worked in 2 schools over the 40 years, with over half of that time being spent as head of department. I have a wealth of experience, including:
Devising KS4 and KS5 schemes of work and ensuring that they were in line with the new GCSE and A Level specifications - this means I am very aware of the exam board requirements.
Setting and marking mock papers- I have done thousands of these over the years so I am au fait with the common mistakes students make and know exactly what points examiners are looking for.
Designing material and activities to enhance students’ practical experience at ‘A’ level and GCSE and prepare them for the practical skills examination questions.
The running of Chemistry Olympiad preparation sessions and conducting mock interviews with the students.
Using my thorough understanding of the curriculum and the examination board requirements, I am able to assess a student and quickly ascertain what is needed to progress them to the next level. I use a variety of teaching strategies adapting to individual needs, ensuring understanding of the scientific principles and giving them the confidence to succeed. Homework exercises are set after every session and thorough feedback provided.
