Amy

My name is Amy and I am a graduate from Cardiff University where I received a 2:1 BA (Hons) in Philosophy and Religion. I am very passionate about my subjects and really believe there is so much to gain from learning about the world and the different cultures that live within it. I am a qualified teacher of RE and Law at an 11-18 state secondary school. I am currently leader of learning (head of faculty). In my spare time I enjoy playing netball and spending time with my friends and my baby niece

Tutoring Experience

I have tutored throughout my University life. I established the "philosophy cafe" where other undergraduates could meet to share ideas, go over essay plans and have 1 to 1 support with myself and the other people that would volunteer.

In my Gap year I spent a year working at one of the biggest international schools in Bangkok. Most of my free time was used to tutor the younger children in the school with their maths homework and of course helping those studying for their GCSE in religious education.

Tutoring Approach

No My approach to tutoring is to play to the strengths of the students. It is all about finding a revision and learning technique that works best for them. I believe mark schemes and planning essays are the best way to not only learn a topic but also the best way to solidify that knowledge to make their revision that much easier.

I am up to date on the current schemes of work for both GCSE and A-level religious studies, philosophy and A-level Law. which makes my approach that much more tailored to getting the best out of each student.

My approach to tutoring is to allow the student to self identify areas in which they are less confident and for myself to organise and prioritise our time together to ensure they leave more confident than when they first walked in.

I also believe that the key to tutoring is to create a safe environment where ideas can be expressed and where they can be free to make mistakes. Learning from ones own mistakes is an effective way to better understand the topic. However, with me there I can better explain where they went wrong, but more importantly, guide them to ensure one does not make the same mistake twice.
