Biology Lessons in Glasgow

My name is Angela. I am half Thai, half Scottish and currently live in Glasgow. I recently graduated from Edinburgh Napier University with a First Class Bachelor of Science in Animal and Conservation Biology with Honours. I have developed a solid foundation in ecology, wildlife care, and environmental management through both academic and hands-on experience. My background includes volunteering as a Wildlife Care Assistant at Hesselhead Wildlife Rescue in Scotland, where I actively contributed to the well-being and management of various species, from avian species to terrestrial mammals and seals.

Growing up in multiple countries and attending various schools has shaped my adaptability, cultural awareness, and interpersonal skills. I am passionate about leveraging my knowledge and enthusiasm for ecology to contribute to conservation efforts and sustainable environmental practices. I am eager to apply my skills in a professional setting and continue growing in the field of animal and conservation biology.

Tutoring Experience

For over two years, I volunteered twice weekly to tutor asylum-seeking children as part of my high school community service. I provided lessons in English, Mathematics, Biology, and Geography. The children I tutored varied in age each week, ranging from 2 to 17 years old. I have also tutored family friends in primary-level Biology and Mathematics for a year during my A-levels.

Tutoring Approach

My teaching approach for tutoring children focuses on creating an engaging and supportive learning environment tailored to each child's unique needs. I employ interactive and hands-on methods to make the subjects accessible and enjoyable. Given that many of the children I have taught were not native English speakers, I used real-life examples and encouraged active participation, I aim to foster a love of learning and build the children's confidence in their abilities. Additionally, I emphasize patience, empathy, and positive reinforcement to ensure that each child feels valued and motivated to succeed. Lastly, I draw on my own tutoring experiences, utilizing effective strategies that benefited me and incorporating methods I wished had been used to aid my studies.
