Online Maths and English Tutor

Hello! I am a patient, friendly and trustworthy female tutor. I have a Degree in English and Drama from Bristol University, as well as a Masters in Acting from Birmingham City University. I now have over 8 years of tutoring experience working with different levels, abilities and ages. I have tutored a range of exam levels including 9+, 10+ and 11+ entry exams, 13+ English, Key Stage 2 SATS, GCSE and A Level.

I am a conscientious, enthusiastic, approachable and fun tutor. I love to see my students going from strength to strength, growing in confidence and reaching their goals.

Tutoring Experience

I teach English and Maths at Key Stage 2 level and tutor for 11+ entrance exams (including English, Maths, Verbal Reasoning and Non-verbal reasoning). Whether working towards entry exams, or to help improve English and Maths at Key Stage 2, all of my pupils have gained in academic and self confidence whilst learning with me. And I'm pleased to say, almost all of my students look forward to their lessons and have an enjoyable experience! With a 100% success rate at 11+, I have successfully helped children to achieve entry into various schools including:
Pate's Grammar School (Cheltenham)
St John's, Leatherhead
Sir William Perkins
Epsom College
City of London Freemen's School
St George's, Weybridge
Claremont Fan
Tormead (including some scholarship places)
Notre Dame
Surbiton High (including some scholarship places)
Guildford High
RGS
Hampton
Tiffins
Wallington
Halliford

At Secondary level, I teach Theatre Studies and English (Literature and Language) to A Level. My focus is on helping my students discover ideas for themselves as we learn new strategies for exploring text, and to discover their own way of essay writing so that they can confidently express their ideas. We work towards exams so that students are fully prepared and confident, with nerves banished. At GCSE, I am very experienced tutoring for a range of exam boards including iGCSE CIE, iGCSE Pearson, AQA and WJEC. Again, at A Level I am fully-prepared to tutor Edexcel, AQA and WJEC.

I am a very popular tutor, with almost all of my students now coming from recommendations. Many references are available at all levels both by email and phone.

Tutoring Approach

Lessons are normally on a weekly basis, unless you request otherwise, and I always give homework so that students can continue learning and improving at home. However, there is never any pressure to complete the homework - I want my tutees to enjoy learning with me as much as possible, and understand that life sometimes takes over!

Working with any student is about team work with the family - I am always on hand by phone or email to discuss your child's progress and ways in which we can all work together to help them achieve their full potential.

I have a fun and friendly approach to teaching. In preparation for 11+ entrance exams, I will work with children using a mixture of straight and multiple-choice practice papers. Over time, the difficulty of the papers I choose will increase and as the test approaches we will work more and more on skills and tricks that will help students finish the test in the time and with great confidence. Papers cover verbal and non-verbal reasoning (where appropriate), as well as a focus on English and Maths skills. I have a 100% success rate and find that all my pupils enjoy their sessions and greatly improve in confidence at school, as well as for the tests themselves.

For Theatre Studies and English Lessons at a Secondary level, I specialise in exam preparation - both short-term in the months before exams, and more long term through the KS3 years. I work with my students to explore a range of academic texts together to make new and exciting discoveries about them. Through the lessons, students gain in confidence in writing their ideas in an academic way and are thoroughly prepared for exams so that nerves will be banished and they can be approached with confidence. Again, I have a high success rate with students achieving their desired grades at GCSE and A Level, helping them to guarantee a place at their chosen university.
