After leaving college with three A*s, I began university, from which I graduated with a 1st Classification BSc in Physics, ranking fifth within my year, and an MSc with Distinction in energy based Chemical Engineering. I am looking to begin a career in in mathematical education, and I believe that my experience, track record of academic excellence, and enthusiastic style make me perfect for that.
Alongside university, I developed teaching skills through two positions as a secondary school teacher of Maths and Physics, which included delivering many lessons to GCSE and A Level classes. My teaching roles were not confined to the front of the classroom however, and also included substantial time spent helping individual students understand topics that they struggled with. These experiences with one-on-one teaching were the most rewarding aspect to me, hence the move towards tutoring.
My style is enthusiastic, friendly, and approachable, and my methods focus on what has proved useful from my own track record of academic excellence, throughout school and university. Specifically this involves going through past paper questions with the student, and helping them to learn how to answer any question that they may be faced with. This process would begin by going through one or two full past papers to highlight the topics that the student feels comfortable or less comfortable with, and then helping them to overcome their weaknesses. This structure allows the lessons to be student-led, and tailored to the needs of the tutee to help them get the most out of the session, developing the skills that they want to develop.
Many students that I encounter have the mathematical ability to succeed, but lack the confidence to apply their skills. Throughout these lessons, that confidence will be developed, until your child has the belief that they can tackle anything that an exam throws at them.
