I am a friendly and approachable teacher and use my subject knowledge and genuine love of English as my primary drivers to motivate students to achieve their full potential. I particulalry enjoy teaching poetry as reading contemporary poetry is a passion of mine, and watching students get inspired by the complex and abstract language of poetry is a true joy!

Tutoring Experience

I have been teaching in secondary schools in the UK as an A level and GCSE specialist for over 10 years. In this time, I have worked in a highly successful department where I have managed the A level part of the curriculum. Our results in the department have consistently been in the top 5% for state schools in the UK in terms of student attainment, and my students regularly get, at least 1 grade higher than what they have been targeted for their GCSE and A level exams.

Tutoring Approach

In my career, I have worked with students of all abilities and have developed personalised plans of support in order to help them get the best results possible. Differentiating the demanding curriculum of exam boards so that students of all backgrounds and abilities can engage with the material is one of the cornerstones of my teaching practise. I am always willing to walk the extra mile in terms of support and will work collaboratively with my students to ensure that they get the most out of my lessons. Over the years, I have designed argument and essay writing structures that can be applied to both A level and GCSE essay writing and working within these structures will simplify the demanding assessment objectives for students, providing a 'shortcut' to successful essay writing.
