Hello. My name is Asma. I have an Honours degree in BCS Biomedical Science and a passion for teaching and helping others. I am very easy going, patient and have effective communication skills. I have worked as a Discharge facilitator at a local Hospital for 8 years. As part of my job I regularly taught science related topics to new medical students who were on placements and also my team members. I throughly enjoy teaching.
I have been tutoring for approximately 5 years and have tutored many students who needed help with a different variety of subjects. For example I've helped pupils with their GCSE's in Biology, Chemistry and Physics as well as GCSE Maths so that they could succeed in their exams. I have experience teaching KS3 and below Maths and English. I also teach 11 plus content. During a community placement I supervised a year 7 class and this experience with the children enabled me to understand their needs more and develop new skills, which are often different from adult interactions.
When I teach, I like to keep the lesson fun and interactive. I believe that the best way a person learns is if they fully understand and enjoy the way the topics are being taught. This helps to embed the content into my students’ long term memories. I strongly believe that a thorough understanding provides the foundation for confidently and accurately answering exam questions. I encourage my students to connect with Biology by relating it to their daily lives, so that the content is more meaningful and applicable to them. I like to simplify complex ideas by mapping them out using diagrams to help my students visualise new concepts and to see the wider context. After completing a topic I like to set out exam style questions under timed conditions to get an understanding of how much my student has learnt and to identify weakness areas. It is important for me to identify my tutees’ individual goals and tailor my lessons to suit their needs. I really look forward to developing a strong rapport with my students’, so that they feel comfortable asking any questions to maximise their learning experience.
