After studying Geography at the University of Birmingham and studying for a PGdipEd in secondary
mathematics teaching, I taught up to and including GCSE maths in a mainstream secondary school for two
years. This allowed me to see the difficulties that students face with both their studies and their mental
health. Mental health and wellbeing became a huge passion of mine, and this led to me becoming a mental
health first aider. For the last 4 and a half years, I worked at an online alternative provision academy to
develop my experience of working with students with special educational needs. I was promoted to deputy
head of maths and so I have a year of line manager experience. I left this role to focus on work surrounding
mental health and supporting students outside of the traditional school system. I have tutored maths,
science, and geography in my spare time for the past ten years and this has given me the skills of time
management, relationship building, one to one education and planning. I enjoy course writing and curriculum
development which showcase my admin skills and my ability to deal with a large amount of information and
condense it into something that is understood by most. I am always looking for ways to develop myself; for
example, I have recently completed a qualification in Dyscalculia and a Level 3 qualification in Educational
Psychology
7 years qualified maths teacher
10 years tuition experience
4 years working with SEN students
Mental health first aider
