Tutoring Experience

I am able to provide references upon request. Alternatively, I can direct you to my profiles elsewhere, where you will be able to see testimonials.

I have my own tutoring business which I am currently running alongside working as a teacher. I teach all the way up to A-level chemistry and biology at my current school.

I am a fully qualified teacher and have worked in an inner city school in London as well as schools in Surrey and currently, a school in Berkshire.

I have an enhanced DBS (formerly known as a CRB check) that is on the update scheme.

I studied at the University of Surrey and graduated with an MSci in Biochemistry (Master of Science). I also have a PGCE in biology and chemistry.
I have 10 years experience in teaching, having taught 100s of students.

*** PLEASE NOTE: I offer a FREE consultation either in the student's home, online or over the phone. ***

Tutoring Approach

I do not believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to teaching children or adults. Every child is different in their strengths and weaknesses but also their skills, characters and ways in which they work best with an adult. With that in mind, I will assess each student continuously in our sessions (most of the time without the student knowing) to see what works for them. This means that the teaching you get for your child is always bespoke and specific to your individual child. The same is also true for adult learners. The teaching you will, as an adult or child, receive from me is individual to your needs and your personality.

For example, say you have a child with autism and ADHD. My approach to teaching them will be different. Perhaps I will include a warm up at the start where we do an activity or play a small game relevant to the subject. I may then let the student have a 2 minute break whereby I ask them what they did on the weekend. Then tell them what the rest of the session will entail so that they are fully aware of what they will be doing for the next 50 or so minutes. Then the rest of the session will follow short activities to help them with whatever it is that they are supposed to be learning with me. It is important that learning happens in small chunks for children (and adults!) that have SEND.

On the other hand, some students just need to crack on with theory and exam practice. If this is the case then a more traditional approach can be used. For example, I have just started teaching your child. They have an upcoming exam with a few difficult concepts/topics and they don’t understand some of it or do not have the confidence to answer exam questions on that topic. I will use a mixture of PowerPoints, videos and textbooks along with past exam paper questions (which is arguably the most important part of learning) to teach the content, model answering exam questions, let the student have a go at answering a question then encourage independence and self-thinking when answering the majority of the rest for us to then go through the answers together.

Your child may need a mixture of the above approaches! And that is OK! This is where I come in. I can judge what your child needs using my professional knowledge and skills, then deliver!

Furthermore, a younger student will be taught in a different way than an older student. Younger students need a lot more structure to their sessions whereas older students tend to be happier to lead where the session goes. I tend to have some families that prefer me to plan topics that I believe the student needs help with or some families prefer to let their child dictate which topics we do every session. I ask that if a student is telling me the topics they’d like to do - they give me 48 hours notice so that I can prepare materials such as exam questions etc.

Each child is so vastly different that it is impossible for me to tell you how my sessions are done. What I can say though, is that, my approach works. It most definitely promotes and encourages critical thinking, independence and problem solving. It provides a strong foundation and delivers results.

Want evidence? Check my reviews. My reviews are scattered around Google, Facebook and Firsttutors so upon exchange of contract details, I will send you links to my business profiles for you to read all of my testimonials.#/k#
