Private Maths and English Tutor in Haringey

NEW/RELOCATED - MANY REFERENCES/REVIEWS AVAILABLE

Award-winning tutor at one of the UK's best, most renowned tutor agencies ('The Good Schools Guide' tutor agencies: 'section A').

I have eight years' experience (2,000+ hours, one-to-one) tutoring dozens of students and a year's experience in the capacity of Head of Provision/Project Manager at an alternative, independent primary school designed to re-engage learners in education.

An alumnus of University College London (ranked 9th in the QS 2024 World University Rankings) and Colchester Royal Grammar School (top secondary school in the country by A-level results 2006-16), I am well-versed in the ins and outs of everything from 11+ to GCSE study preparation and offer a warm, friendly and professional service with a creative edge.

At present, I specialise in English and Mathematics in key stages 2 to 4, with a focus on Entrance Exams (11+, pre-test and 13+), Primary and GCSE preparation and success.

Tutoring Experience

After graduating from University College London in 2013, I began volunteering at an alternative provision for students with social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) difficulties and/or autism spectrum disorder (ASD). I soon advanced to become a tutor, before securing a double-promotion to lead a specific school site as Head of Provision/Project Manager – experience which has given me a core understanding of the need for education to be engaging at all times and tailored in content and tone to the needs of the individual. Here, I gained 2,000+ hours' experience in one-to-one and small group teaching.

In schools, I have three years' experience, mentoring and tutoring in all subjects of the national curriculum at key stages 1 and 2.

Privately, I have tutored in all subjects at Primary and 11+, in Mathematics and Science at 13+ and in English, Geography and Maths at GCSE (including American-style education - Grade 9). Through private tuition, I have completed three home-schooling programmes and gained further experience in teaching students with SEN. Regarding Entrance Exams, I have helped students gain entry into Colchester Royal Grammar School, St. Edward's School, Oxford, and top independent schools in London such as Harrow School.

I am also an international residential/travelling tutor. Last summer, for example, I delivered daily lessons in both academic and creative subjects to Year 5 and Year 7 pupils for an UHNW family at the Mandarin Oriental in Bodrum, Turkey. Over several weeks, I curated an intensive, targeted intervention programme focused on improving performance ahead of the new school year, with detailed daily and weekly progress reports to monitor the children's development.

Tutoring Approach

First and foremost, my aim is to create a safe and supportive learning environment, grounded in openness and honesty in communication.

Beyond this, I aspire to help students to unlock their potential, whether it be in cultivating optimal study habits, helping them to develop a healthy sense of pride in their personal, professional and educational development, preparing them for selective schools or supporting them as they build the skills and confidence required to succeed in mainstream education - always aiming for the sky!

My approach to tutoring is rooted in building student rapport by following interests, identifying strengths, and being sensitive to needs, learning style(s), level of ability and engagement. Furthermore, I endeavour to make the effort to unveil the perspective and imagination of students as part of a meaningful tutoring service; one which stimulates learning through creative thinking to allow the student the space to discover extraordinary ideas.
