Private Maths and Physics Tuition in Southend-on-Sea

I am a retired teacher/university lecturer and examiner for Cambridge Assessment. I have taught A-level Physics, Maths, Computer Science and Electronics for over 40 years in various educational establishments including Palmers sixth form college at Grays in Essex, Chelmsford College of Further Education, South East Essex College of Further and Higher Education and most recently at London South Bank University where I have taught some of these subjects to degree level. Having retired from the university I now work as an external examiner for the BSc in Digital Technology and Solutions Professional course.

Tutoring Experience

Palmers Sixth Form College, Grays, Essex where I taught Physics and Electronics up to Advanced Level
Chelmsford College of FE, where I taught Computing, Mathematics and Physics up to Advanced Level
South East Essex College of Further and Higher Education where I taught Physics and Electronics to Advanced Level, Electronics to City & Guilds 224 part 3 level
London South Bank University where I have taught on the BSc degree course in Computer Science and Computer Technology including Software Development, Software Engineering, Computer Architecture, Data Structures & Algorithms. I have also taught Applied Mathematics on the BSc Chemical Engineering course.

Tutoring Approach

My approach to teaching has always been to try and encourage interest in the subject, as once the student starts to enjoy the learning experience they begin to make rapid progress. Having written a highly successful undergraduate text book that was designed to encourage self-study, I have found that breaking lessons down into a series of information-presentation/information-analysis blocks helps the student to apply the acquired knowledge straight away giving them a much deeper understanding of the subject. I also like to set some work for them to work to do between lessons if possible, as this helps acquire the higher level learning skills of critical evaluation as well as giving them more practice with analysis. Of course, each student has different interests, motivations and commitments, so the specific details of each lesson plan is always designed to meet the aims and objectives of the student.
