My name is Beth and I have been teaching English Language and Literature in Bristol for the past 3 years.
I moved to Bristol after graduating from the University of Exeter and have loved getting to know this incredible and dynamic city.
I graduated with am LLB from the University of Exeter in 2021. This enabled me to transfer the analytical skills I obtained into my PGCE teaching qualification with the University of Bristol. I taught at 3 different schools during my training, including a primary school, and thrived on adapting to different learning environments and meeting new people.
I have taught every year group from Year 7-11 at my secondary school for the past two years. However, I also enjoy teaching the contextual complexities behind the A Level curriculum and did so on multiple occasions during my training year.
Teaching isn’t a “one size fits all” approach. Different students require different ways to absorb information and retain it. It shouldn’t be a memory game. Instead, children need to grow in confidence, especially due to English being subjective in nature. It is my responsibility to ensure students can plan and answer questions not only to achieve the mark scheme, but also respond with their own original flare and justification. I want them to enjoy learning language and contextual analysis whilst aspiring to dive deeper into their reasoning.
