I am a teacher of English in a secondary school in Norfolk, UK. I love teaching because I feel like I'm making a real difference to people's life chances - and I really enjoy seeing them learn and succeed. When I'm not teaching, I can be found having fun with my family, reading a good book, doing yoga and pottering in my garden.

Tutoring Experience

I am an experienced teacher of English with 13 years' teaching experience at secondary level in both the state and private sectors. I have also been tutoring young people online and face-to-face since I myself was at university. My tutoring portfolio has included:
- GCSE English Language and Literature (all UK exam boards) and IGCSE
- A-Level English Language and English Literature, (all UK exam boards)
- IB English, 11+ and 13+ exam entrance preparation (English, and Verbal/Non Verbal Reasoning)
- Coaching on how to write personal statements for university and university interview preparation, and
- coaching students in their undergraduate essay and research skills. I am a specialist study skills teacher.
- conversational English for non-English speakers
I also have a lot of experience teaching people with SEND, in particular dyslexia. I am a member of the Chartered College of Education.

Tutoring Approach

I believe that we learn best when having fun and exploring a rich world of meaning through interesting texts. In my lessons, I try to teach technical skills while immersing my students in an enjoyment of language and literature. My lessons are relaxed and tailored to the interests of my students, while aiming to make fast progress in specific skills through targeted practice and feedback. In my initial lessons with a student, I tend to conduct baseline assessments of reading, writing and exam skills, and provide regular updates on my students' progress, so that parents can see the impact of my sessions. I am happy to teach 1:1 or pairs/groups of students at a discounted rate per student.
