I hold a BEng (Honours) in Mechanical Engineering and an MSc in Design for Medical Technologies from the University of Dundee; I also hold a PGDip in Musical Theatre from the Royal Academy of Music. As well as a tutor I'm also a working actor and personal trainer.
I first became interested in tutoring during my honours year of my undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering. After speaking to the parents of young teenagers who were in the same theatre group as me I found that many parents were unfamiliar with the current teaching methods of maths and physics, and as a consequence were unable to help their kids with their homework. At this time I began to offer tutoring to a small number of teenagers sitting their Standard Grade and Higher (GCSE & A-Level) exams, as well as tutoring a first year university student through his exams. I continued to tutor through my MSc in Design for Medical Technologies. To date my students have obtained better than estimated grades. I also hold an enhanced DBS (CRB) check.
To tailor my sessions appropriately I consult with the pupil (and parent) before teaching to assess what level they are working at, which areas they are struggling in and what they are hoping to achieve from the sessions. With this information we create achievable goals without overloading the student.
Whilst at the Royal Academy of Music I had the experience of working with, and under the tutelage of, some of the most respected performers and teachers in the industry. Throughout my singing lessons I like to bring an informal and fun approach whilst maintaining professional standards to share my passion for music.
