Hi!
I am currently studying a Politics PhD at the University of Manchester. My thesis specialises on American History and Politics. I graduated in 2021 with a high First Class Honours Bachelors degree in History and Politics. I never once received a grade lower than a First throughout my years at university. After this, I then graduated from the University of Sheffield in 2022 after I successfully completed an International Relations MA course.
I also received A grades in both of the history and politics A-Levels, achieving 96% in one of my Politics exams. I consider myself to be a specialist in the areas of history and politics thanks to the diverse, exemplary university courses I have undertook, as well as other activities I have participated in. For example, I have completed the UK 101 leadership programme and I have also produced my own political podcast. The aim of which was to educate disengaged students within the Manchester area on the importance of local politics through a discussion on the political landscape and by answering commonly asked questions about local leaders. This is currently available on Spotify. I am also in the process of learning to speak fluently in Italian.
I am currently studying in the Department of Politics at the University of Manchester, which is consistently ranked as one of the top politics departments worldwide. The course has allowed me to further expand on my political knowledge and essay-writing skills. The modules I have studied both here, and during my undergraduate degree, have allowed me to specialise in areas such as, but are not limited to, American politics, Middle-Eastern politics, Contemporary British politics, voting behaviour and the Second World War.
As a student myself, I understand all too well the high levels of stress and anxiety that pupils go through during the run up to exam season. However, exam stress can be easily managed and I hope to help pupils feel less anxious and more confident for their exams.
I have been tutoring since 2018 and have a plethora of experience tutoring individuals and groups. Also, I have proven results that my tutoring methods are successful. For instance, one of my current students has excelled by going from a grade 6 to a grade 9 within three months of our tutoring lessons begginning.
Moreover, I am very much aware that many of my students will be planning to apply for university in the upcoming years. Henceforth, I try to encourage them to start thinking about their applications as early as possible. Therefore, I encourage my English students to enter writing competitions on a bi-monthly basis. In which I offer help and guidance through the entire process. Many top-rated universities across the UK, including Oxbridge, find competitions like such, to be invaluable. I have had numerous students win some of these highly-regarded competitions in the past and it has not only worked to strengthen their applications, but has also increased their confidence and writing skills.
I have also successfully completed courses such as, Educating and Engaging Others which has enhanced my ability to produce fascinating lessons that keep my students engaged and interested.
I also teach First and Second years at the University of Manchester. I teach a variety of courses that specialise in both history and politics.
Every single one of my lessons are tailored specifically for each individual student. I always accommodate for their preferred learning style to allow them to reach their full potential. I ensure that my lessons are constantly varied, for example, during English lessons, I will expose my students to a range of different writing structures to fully prepare them for exams. I also like to use resources such as Kahoot and Jamboard to make the most out of lesson time. If a student is studying politics, it is imperative that they are kept up to date with current world events, therefore I incorporate this into my lessons. This allows the student to ask any relevant questions, debate and broaden their knowledge which will ultimately assist them in their future exams.
I am happy to record each and every one of my lessons so that my students can use this for revision later down the line. It also allows the parent to stay in the loop as they can see for themselves what we are doing during class time. I will always keep the parent up to date with regular updates on their child’s progress and I have been acknowledged by parents in the past for doing this.
GCSE English texts I specialise in include:
- An Inspector Calls
- Macbeth
- A Christmas Carol
- Of Mice and Men
- Animal Farm
- Much Ado About Nothing
- Frankenstein
I am also very familiar with both the Relationships and Power and Conflict poetry clusters (AQA), as well as the four clusters (Relationships, Place Belonging, Conflict, Time) for Edexcel. On top of this, I am accustomed to the English Language exam for both AQA and Edexcel. I have many resources for every area of English board, including revision guides that I have made myself.
History:
Due to the degree that I have in history, my knowledge on history topics is extremely wide and extensive. Please send me a message with the exact history topic you need help with and I can let you know if I can help. However, I do have experience teaching some of the AQA and Edexcel GCSE History modules.
I am more than happy to take part in a trial session so that as a parent, you are satisfied I meet your tutoring needs and that your child feels comfortable and happy with me as their tutor.
