I have over 20 years experience as a classroom teacher and have been tutoring for the past three years. I recently left full-time classroom teaching to focus on tuition: it's such a privilege to be able to work with an individual student to really get to know their strengths and challenges, and to be able to tailor tuition to uniquely support each learning journey.
I have worked in several different types of schools: primary, secondary and special, both in the UK and internationally: in Eritrea, Ethiopia, India and Jordan. Although I initially qualified as a secondary teacher, most of my long career has been in primary education. I specialise in KS2 and have an in-depth knowledge of the National Curriculum in this Key Stage.
I have a patient, nurturing approach and I work best with children who lack confidence in their own abilities, for whatever reason. I like to approach learning in small steps to build strong foundations and self-belief. I look for learning gaps and work to pre-empt possible learning hurdles. In a first (free) session with any new student, I will chat with the student about their areas of concern and conduct a gentle assessment in target areas to enable me to plan follow-up sessions accordingly.
