"She is a committed professional who makes a real difference when it comes
to improving children's competency and confidence. A reliable,
hard-working, organised teacher who is approachable and instinctively knows
how to get the best out of children."

As a qualified teacher having taught for over 20 years I've had the
privilege of nurturing many young children. Teaching children aged 4 to 9 (Reception to Year 4)
is a great passion of mine, especially when seeing the personal progress
they make when feeling confident and competent in their abilities. Many
people would say I have a natural ability to relate to children and adults
and put them at ease. Working with families and not just the child, is an
integral ingredient to success.

I have high, yet realistic expectations, believing that if children feel
confident and have been taught the appropriate skills, they can make
excellent personal progress and achieve first-rate results.

Excellent testimonials from parents are available.

Tutoring Experience

I am an experienced teacher having taught as a class teacher in Reception and Key Stage 1 in the Maintained and Independent sectors for the last 20+ years, and as a supply teacher up to Year 4.

For the last 9 years, I have been successfully running my own tutoring business from home. This takes place a wonderful, cheerful home classroom after school.

Tutoring Approach

1:1 lessons £45 per hour
Small group (max of 3 children) lessons £28 per hour
Payable up front in half termly blocks of lessons.

An introductory lesson is £45 per hour.

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays 3:45-7:15pm
I am also available during school holidays.
Please contact me for current availability.

I teach in a calm, positive manner, regularly use praise for deserved effort or achievement and have a secure understanding of the National Curriculum. Learning is child-centred, age-appropriate and involves a mixture of practical activities and formal recording on paper.

Each session is tailor-made. Whether the child is already a proficient learner who needs challenging and extending, or a learner who needs a boost of confidence, gentle nurturing and revision of the basics, I design an individual program to suit him or her.
During the time I taught full time in my previous school, (an over-subscribed pre-prep school in Epsom) I maintained an excellent reputation; parents found me amenable, a good listener with an ability to action change and work alongside them to help their son or daughter.

I am able to provide contact details of parents and teachers I am still in contact with should you wish to speak with them.

Much of my client base is from word of mouth.

Testimonials:

Catherine has been a wonderful tutor for my children.
I'm delighted we came across her as she's exceeded all our expectations. From the very first session her enthusiasm won the girls over and her subsequent insights into their abilities and where focus was required put any parenting concerns to rest. She is very thorough and will not move on from a topic until my daughter has grasped it fully. The girls really look forward to their lesson with her every week.
She is the perfect tutor for my kids as I have seen a massive improvement in their school levels, I highly recommend her.

"Thank you for helping Max grow enormously both academically and personally over the last year." Robyn

"...He was definitely beginning to fall behind in class, but your help to Noah has been invaluable and your feedback to me was clear and helpful." Joyce H.

“Catherine has been teaching my son for 15 months to increase his academic ability and develop his independence at school. Since his tuition started we have seen him grow both at home and at school and develop into a much more confident and happy child.
This has been shown at school through his improvement at tackling difficult tasks independently and requiring less adult intervention in completing his work. His teachers have commented on his increased confidence and enjoyment at school.
Catherine is friendly with a professional approach to teaching. Her imagination is hugely evident in explaining difficult concepts leading to fun and lively sessions.
She builds an excellent relationship with her pupil allowing time to understand and get to know them and similarly with the parents to ensure the child’s requirements are met fully.
I would not hesitate in recommending this talented and dedicated teacher.” Mrs S - Epsom

“I would recommend Catherine she is friendly and polite, able to understand what my daughter needs and has helped her move forward and feel happy to learn.” Mrs B. Banstead

Catherine has been tutoring both my children for a few weeks now. After initial assessment she set out a clear plan of what she would be covering with them this term, all in line with what they are doing at school. My children look forward to Catherine coming and have both grown in confidence. They enjoy their sessions and seem very interested. In subjects that they are secure in, Catherine moves them on to work which may be above their year group but keeps them challenged and interested. Catherine has a lovely and gentle approach, and her rewards system works well. I would highly recommend her. Mrs F - Whyteleafe

Catherine is fantastic, she connected with my daughter Lois straight away and Lois always looks forward to seeing Catherine every week. Catherine is always on time and always give great feedback I wouldnt hesitate to recommend Catherine. Mrs M - Kingswood

I contacted Catherine 3 months ago and I wanted her to help my 6 year old son who found very difficult to concentrate. Because of this, he was, academically behind a normal 6 year old. Since Catherine tuition, my son is able to do independently at school, he is able to understand the tasks quickly and he's excited when doing his homework.
Catherine is warm and caring and very disciplined. Catherine loves the challenge and my son loves the time she spends with him as Catherine makes the tuition totally tailored to his needs.
I can recommend her enough. We'll keep her helping my child and we are sure he'll achieve his full potential with her help. I can't thank her enough. Mrs E - Woodcote
