Online Geography and Study Skills Lessons

I have always worked with the very best schools and students from around the world, resulting in a really deep understanding of what makes a truly world class student. I am committed to helping individuals achieve their potential by developing their sense of purpose to drive motivation. I love to work closely with students who are perhaps struggling to overcome a new challenge, have lost some of their motivation or direction, lost confidence in their ability and need the help of a deeply experienced coach and tutor to help them move forwards with greater pace and purpose. Equally, I love to work with talented students who know what they want to achieve and know the specific help they need to get there. I have a further, more specific, interest in working with home educated students who are looking for external support managing their holistic learning, and who want to integrate the full range of learning experiences available in the world's best schools whilst also maximising the opportunities of not being constrained by school.

My work commitments are varied as I also work as an international education consultant and leadership coach. Outside of work I enjoy family time with my wife and two young children. We recently moved to North Yorkshire to be closer to my wife's family and give our children a life of adventure, exploring the moors, kayaking the rivers and immersing ourselves in the natural world.

Tutoring Experience

I have taught, and held multiple leadership roles, in 3 of the UK's leading boarding schools, including Eton College where I was also a student, and have executive experience in high performing education organisations. Recent experience includes Chief Strategy Officer for a global non-profit connecting leading schools from all 6 continents to drive change in education. This involved the development of student programs to develop students as future global leaders, as well as working closely with elite universities to support student transition. I have extensive experience supporting schools, universities, teachers and students in a wide variety of countries. In addition to driving school improvement and staff professional development, I tutor a small number of students, focusing on students looking to access the world's leading institutions. I have tutored students towards entry to elite secondary schools, top scholarship programs at US colleges and Oxbridge. For Geography students, I focus on extending top students, securing A* grades, preparing for university and overall enrichment. Most of my work, however, is beyond a single subject and focuses on developing the whole learner; independence, self-management and nurturing a sense of purpose with deep levels of motivation.

Tutoring Approach

My entire approach is founded on a belief that developing intrinsic motivation is essential if an individual is to sustain their learning independently. I have a deep understanding of how the brain works and how meaningful learning happens. Memory + attention + engagement = learning and the key with memory, attention and engagement is to be clear on the relevance of each step of learning to the individual's needs. I offer a highly personalised approach, work hard to understand all aspects of a learner's experience and focus on identifying emerging patterns which enable me to adapt learning to the individual's needs. Whilst I quickly form a clear picture of what the learner will need, the sequencing and nature of delivery is very responsive to emerging needs.
