Private Psychology Tutor in Ryton

I love Psychology. I find it the most fascinating topic to discuss as it plays a part in our everyday lives. As a result, I love teaching people about this subject. I am 26 years old and I have completed both an undergraduate and masters degree in Psychology. As part of my masters, I worked with a NHS Foundation trust to put together an intervention programme for a certain population of service users. I always find the fun in everything I do and always work to ensure every session I deliver is memorable and enjoyable. Outside of my professional life I love playing golf, taking my little fluffy friend for walks and travelling the world and taking in new cultures. My mission this year is to become better at speaking Spanish.

Tutoring Experience

I have tutored a number of students across the years ranging from GCSE to A-Level with the occasional first year university student as well. I have tutored subjects such as Biology, Physics, Chemistry and Business Studies at GCSE. At A-Level I have tutored students in Psychology and Economics.

All of my A-Level students were given a minimum expected grade of at best a D. Following our sessions, all of them came out with a minimum of a B with many receiving an A.

Tutoring Approach

My focus is on the individual. Prior to starting sessions, it is key to find out exactly what the student is looking to gain from our sessions. Whether it is exam technique, research methods or course content in general, understanding what the student wants to gain allows me to put significant time into session planning so the student is getting a truly tailored experience. With this, I want to understand how each student learns best. This could be a more traditional teaching method or it could take a conversational form where we work through course content together. My priority is being flexible in my approach so that each student feels completely comfortable and confident our sessions will help them.

As with any tutoring session, learning course content is the key. However my approach is to give students the tools to learn and recall information effectively through methods backed by psychological research. An example is state dependant learning. These techniques allow me to give students an opportunity to maximise both what we cover in sessions whilst also allowing them to improve their own studying techniques.

I am a firm believer in practice makes perfect, especially when it comes to exam technique. I have access to many practice exam materials. I also have strong connections in the field particularly with people who really know what markers are looking for in exam answers.

Finally, I want my students to be confident enough in their abilities that by the end, they can confidently deliver the course content back to me as I believe teaching someone else is one of the strongest ways to learn content. It was something that was instilled in me during my university courses.

I love seeing people succeed. Watching someone grow in confidence is such a wonderful thing and if I can help with that in anyway, I am all for it.
