Hi, I’m Charlotte! I graduated in July 2024 with a 2.1 BSc Biology (with a year in industry) degree from the University of York, and achieved a first class dissertation grade. I’m starting a research masters degree in biomedical science in September, where I will be studying bladder cancer differences between males and females, and aspire to work within cancer research! Prior to this, I gained 9 GCSEs of grades 8-6 (A*-B) including Biology (8/A*) and Chemistry (7/A), followed by Core Maths (B) and A Levels in Music (A), Biology (B) and Chemistry (C).
I think what makes my tutoring style different, is that I didn’t breeze through GCSE and A level’s, so I really understand how it feels to struggle with a subject. But, I strongly believe that with the right support, these challenges can be overcome and that’s what I strive to do with tutoring.
I’m happy to offer tuition for Biology and Chemistry secondary school through to GCSE level, and for primary school science and maths.
Lesson prices are £12/hour. The first lesson is free of charge and a 10% discount can be applied to block bookings of 10 x 1 hour lessons.
Please note, I have a basic DBS certificate which I am more than happy to share on request. For primary school students, although lessons would take place online, I would prefer an adult to be present in the same room as the child during the lesson time.
I tutored my younger sister through her science GCSEs, and she gained grades 7-8 (A-A*) in the three sciences.
The first lesson is 100% free, as I think it's important that the student can get a feel for what lessons would be like with me and decide whether I am the right tutor for them before committing to paid lessons.
I like to have an initial conversation about how the student learns best and tailor my teaching style around that. I think the key to doing well in GCSE sciences is practising enough past papers and taking the time to look at the mark schemes. Taking time to understand a topic is essential and going over things from lessons or end of topic tests that were incorrectly answered or not understood is important to improving your ability and confidence.
