After University I taught in a school for over ten years before starting my family. I have taught English Language from home for the past five years, which has allowed me to be around for my children. My love of English started when I was a child, and guided me in my career choice to become a professional fully-qualified teacher.
I completed a 4 year B.Ed (Hons) degree course with English at Newman College, Birmingham University in 1994, and taught at Corpus Christi RC Primary School in Stechford for more than ten years. After a break to have my children, I decided to take a CELTA course and have since taught English to speakers of other languages at Birmingham Metropolitan College, as well as adults seeking to improve their literacy skills. I have also tutored students to English Language GCSE standard in my home.
I assess my students during their first lesson to ascertain their abilities, where they want to get to, and their learning styles. This helps me plan lessons accordingly, and use the best techniques for each individual. I have a friendly approach and relaxed manner, which I find puts students at ease. I am familiar with delivering lessons to a wide range of age groups.
