I am married with three young children. I am passionate about History and studied it at university along with politics. My love of history translates into a passionate approach to teaching which motivates young people in their learning, with proven outcomes.
I have been a secondary teacher for 12 years teaching mainly History but other Humanities subjects as well. I have been a head of department in two schools as well as a Lead Practitioner at another. I have a strong record of supporting students to achieve excellent results at GCSE but also develop their love of the subject which has led to many students taking their studies further eg. A-Level and degree.
Prior to becoming a teacher I worked as a Learning Mentor in a secondary school which involved working with students to help to overcome holistic barriers to learning and to motivate and engage and empower them in their learning in order improve their performance in a number of subjects and enhance their readiness for the next stage of their lives. I also mark GCSE exams for AQA which provides excellent Continuous Professional Development and helps me to improve my students' exam skills.
As a head of department, teacher and learning mentor, I have been heavily involved in intervention whether that is one to one, small groups or whole classes. Through this I have developed a number of strategies to assist students in improving their learning skills, knowledge, exam skills and confidence in a subject.
