Chris

I have been a teacher now for 16 years. I am an Assistant Headteacher in a school in the London Borough of Havering, I have been private tutoring for 10 years with excellent success rates in SATs results aswell as supporting each of the 14 students I have tutored in receiving school places through 11+ CSSE and CEM exams.
I have a great passion for teaching and learning and really enjoy seeing a transition in children's attitude towards their academic studies.

Tutoring Experience

4 years teaching at Secondary Education specialising in PE and History.
12 years Primary Education.
3 years Senior Leadership in Primary Education
1 year teaching overseas in Nigeria, Uganda and Ghana.

Tutoring Approach

It is important to have the child's needs as the focus for the tutoring so I will always try to adapt the session for each individual to cater for their needs and learning styles. I anyways focus my tutoring sessions on being fast paced, real, developing independence and FUN!

FAST PACED - I always make sure that they are fast paced and with as many 'fun' elements as possible - we learn best when we are enjoying what we are doing.

REAL - I think that it is important to 'keep it real' as much as I can in the session, if there are ever any opportunity to bring 'real life' scenarios in to our tutoring activities to make a connection to the student then I will try to make sure this is in place.

DEVELOPS INDEPENDENCE - Having the independence to use language to explain understanding is so important as a learner now in schools and having the ability to think critically is a big focus in schools. By developing questioning that requires more than a short answer and encouraging for justifying and explanation the students will develop a greater independence and deepen their answers.

FUN - Assessment through games - after teaching a particular topic I use games and activities to assess and test a student's understanding through additional problems and activities.
