I believe that exam success requires 50% knowledge & 50% good exam technique. With this in mind, my Business teaching is mainly taught through analysing past exam questions along side ensuring that the theory is secure. I also use the most up to date text books, work books and current Business news articles.
I have attended training with Tutor2U, AQA and Edexcel to ensure that I know exactly what examiners are expecting from students and the common pitfalls.
I offer a very personalised service and take a lot of time to plan individual lessons and mark homework if required - both set by me and independent learning, so that students can improve and build on constructive advice and techniques (my A Level rates are slightly lower if no marking is required but from experience this results in the biggest improvement).
Those students that regularly do homework & build on constructive feedback are always those that achieve A/A* grades.
Many students find the financial and maths part of Business very challenging and I can help to improve both their confidence and ability. I also advise on essay writing - how to focus on the demands of the question, construct logical chains of reasoning and improve evaluation to attain maximum marks.
I qualified as Business & Economics teacher (14-19) in 2002. I studied a degree in Accounting & Finance and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1989.
My students usually make at least 2 grades of progress (depending on their starting point when they come to me & how long I teach them for). I’ve been tutoring full time for over 7 years.

I have taught all ages of children and young people. I was a senior lecturer in Accounting & Finance at Middlesex University for 2.5 years.
I have been an Assistant Director of Sixth Form and an Assistant Headteacher in a Pupil Referral Unit - both rated Outstanding by Ofsted. I am equally experienced at working with high ability, SEN and vulnerable young people.
I teach a mixture of face to face and/or online, depending on student’s location and preference.
I currently use the online LearnCube platform which students seem to like.
I think my success with students of all ages is due to me being able to put things into their language and to be patient whilst finding a method that works for them. A good sense of humour goes a long way too.
If you’re in the Sixth Form or retaking, I have availability during the day as tutoring is my only job so I can fit in around your free lessons.
All sessions are bespoke, depending on the needs of the student. So the first session is free so that I can gauge the level and learning style of the student. I am particularly good at spotting learning difficulties and advising on how to access assessments and support. However, I also enjoy success in helping students reach their potential and move from B to A*.
I am experienced in helping students to make choices at transition times such as Year 9, 11, 12 & 13. I have also helped parents to apply for SEN referrals with their local authority and to access learning support within school.
I taught in schools for over 8 years and achieved excellent results. I’ve also enjoyed roles based outside schools, working with vulnerable groups including young offenders, children in care and permanently excluded young people.
I grew up in Liverpool and left in 1988; I’ve also lived in the US and Malaysia. I’m sociable with a good sense of humour so I can usually relate well to students and build rapport quickly.
