I retired from teaching at a wide-ability secondary school after 25 years, and then worked as a Learning Support Assistant for two autistic boys at a junior school for four years. Since then, I have been providing tuition part-time for children in Year 3-11.
At secondary school, I was Head of the Religious Studies Department, and taught to A-level. I also taught mathematics occasionally. I have tutored two junior school pupils for the Kent Test in maths and English. I tutored two Year 11 pupils for their maths GCSE. I worked for four years with two autistic boys as their LSA for all the curriculum at junior school from Years 3 to 6. I passed the OpenLearn 'Understanding Autism', and I have a diploma from the Centre of Excellence in 'Advanced Autism Awareness' with Distinction. I have a qualification in TEFL from tefl.org. In addition, I have a Diploma in Speech and Language Therapy from One Education.
I like to teach face-to-face, getting to know the child I am tutoring, and working with that child to identify their strengths and weaknesses, then concentrating of the weaknesses. I mainly use published resources for the Key Stage at which the child is working, and their Year Group, but alter these resources to suit the needs of the child.
