I believe it is key to be able to explain science in simple terms. This is a necessary skill when teaching at all levels. Less s cientifically minded pupils soon find out that the work is not beyond them and those aiming for a future in science quickly grasp new principles needed for in depth study.
I am both conscientious and caring and feel a sense of professional pride when my tutees are successful.
I am an experienced teacher of physics, chemistry and combined science, and a past Head of Science, specialising in Chemistry and have a proven record of success for both higher level and foundation GCSE. Most tutees have achieved either AA/ A*A* ( 7/8) in higher papers, with none getting lower than a BB (6/6), and those taking Foundation have nearly all achieved a CC (5/5) which is the maximum grade for this level
My A level students have increased their grades as a result of my tuition, generally going from D/C to B, the minimum grade that many universities
require. Those requiring an A, needed especially for Medicine, have all been successful, with two achieving an A*
I have also successfully for Common Entrance
In order to teach successfully it is most important for me to gain my tutees' confidence and to give them self-confidence. During my first session I establish their method of learning and their level of knowledge and build on this by praising achievement. Initially, I encourage the use of simple rules and then we go on to develop deeper thought.
My focus throughtout is 'the syllabus' and the fact that all the exam questions come from it - this fact gives tutees both structure and sets goals to their learning. Together we work on exam technique, using many past papers, from not only their exam board, but from all boards, as this gives the tutees a wider exposure to possible questions.
