Tutoring Experience

For the last three years, I've provided informal tutoring to friends and family in maths, physics, computer science and chemistry up to A-Level as well as volunteering at my university to give admission test tutoring and interview practice.

Tutoring Approach

At the start of each lesson, I always make sure the student is confident at all of the preliminaries: so often confusion arises when a student has misunderstood a concept two weeks ago, rendering the current topic entirely unintelligable, so it is vital to make sure we all start off on the same page. Having studied a very applied side of maths, I love to find real life examples to help demonstrate concepts as this not only engages students but also puts problems into context, supporting the student's understanding. Moreover, I always like to have multiple ways of explaining difficult topics - everyone's brain works differently and so having an alternative way of understanding something can often be really useful. Making these connections between the different areas of maths and science also gives the student a broader view of the subject, further supporting their intuition of the course beyond a technical understanding of a specific problem.
