I am an experienced tutor in A-level mathematics. I am an Oxford-trained theoretical particle dark matter physicist, and am passionate about physics and maths!
Tutoring provides me with opportunities to continually immerse myself in these subjects and to share my enjoyment of them with my students, hopefully to the extent that they will develop within them their own passion for these subjects in order to propel them into their future careers.
Since November 2020, I have been a part-time tutor in A-level mathematics and physics for students following one of the AQA, OCR or Edexcel syllabuses. For the last two years I have also provided interview coaching to Oxbridge and Imperial College university candidates applying to enroll in physics related subjects, including aeronautical engineering and materials science.
I have provided over 150 hours of tutelage to 12 students. All tutorials are one-to-one, mainly face-to-face, but over 50 hours were conducted online using video conferencing tools, such as Zoom (including regular whiteboard usage), Miro and BitPaper.
As a postgraduate student, I supervised undergraduates in Oxford Physics undergraduate laboratories as a laboratory assistant.
I have presented 16 academic seminars on my work in theoretical particle astrophysics at well-renown universities in the US, UK, Netherlands, Spain and France, at institutions including Oxford, Harvard, Princeton and UC Berkeley.
My pedagogical approach is one of encouragement. I aim to identify the areas of the subject in which the student is confident and competent, and then attempt to channel that motivation and skill to reinforce and lift the areas the student is less confident about. I focus on ensuring that the student has vast and constant exposure to examination questions, poured over in forensic detail, in order to remove any psychological barriers or apprehensiveness prior to examinations that may inhibit the student from delivering according to their actual level of skill.
