Hello. I am an experienced and motivated creative and Senior Lecturer who has been working at HE level for over 20 years. This has been accompanied by creative freelance practice to include knitted textiles, knitwear design, project management, photography, fashion curation, styling and creative consultancy. I am now seeking to bring my skills to a differing context, looking to guide students through their University project work. As a Year Tutor on many of the courses I have worked on, I can provide pastoral support as well as focused, project input to help a students creative process. This could range from developing primary/secondary research, helping a student to develop concepts or provide insights into creative presentation. We can also explore creative practice together from specific drawing, collage or mixed-media processes.
Graduating with an MA RCA in Constructed Textiles and second MA in Fashion Curation, I have contributed to courses at London College of Fashion and University of Brighton. I was awarded the UAL Excellence in Teaching Award for Outstanding Teaching and have subsequently been nominated twice again. A versatile designer, my professional experience includes styling, photography, colour/textile consultancy, product design and curation. Recent projects include curating of a series of Salon Conversations held at the Royal Academy. Panel members included artists Grayson Perry and Yinka Shinabore, stylists Grace Woodward and Anna Trevelyan and trend forecasters The Future Laboratory. I am skilled in Curatorial Projects, Stills Styling, Trend Forecasting, Machine Knitting, Lecturing and Visual Research/Culture and Critical Writing. This extends to creative practice - drawing, design processes, presentation and developing concepts. I am well versed with the Credit Framework employed within the University structure and also assess projects formally using Module/Unit Handbooks, Assessment Briefs, Learning Outcomes and Course Descriptors. As a curriculum contributor, I also develop course content.
Centred on creative research methods and visualisation, I am interested in experiential sessions that provide students with a space to explore both notions of the ‘self ‘ and the creative process. My focus is for students to find 'their voice' in their creative practice, exploring approaches to project development. I work with many Final Year students and become a Project Tutor, getting to know the work intimately and offering distinct insights in how to develop the work and subsequent outcomes. I can assist with time-management, approaches to primary/secondary research, visual decoding, semiotics and object/image analysis. I can also offer practical support and creative technique guidance.
'We could not have kick-started the year with a better session. Daniela Hatfield is a senior lecturer and creative at London College of Fashion. Her talk focused a lot on group work, creative spirit, and story-telling, all skills and practices we need to adopt over this first module. She talked about collaboration and transferable skills and ideas of negotiation. Daniela gave us a wonderful starting point.'
