I have recently retired as Head of Chemistry in a successful Kent Grammar school, which has allowed me to focus on private tutoring. I have over 35 years experience of preparing exam students for the major exam boards, giving me a detailed knowledge of the requirements of the GCSE and A-Level syllabi. I use many and varied resources from books, notes and worksheets, to past papers and their markschemes, which I use to consolidate learning.
I also have experience working online as a teacher at a leading Kent Independent school using Google Classroom, and adapted many key resources for online use. Feedback from recent tutees has been that they prefer online coaching as there is no travelling time, and it being more effective due to the effective sharing of electronic teaching resources.

Tutoring Experience

I have been in the teaching profession for over 36 years, mostly at Head of Department level and so have extensive experience and knowledge of successfully preparing students for public examinations in the Sciences, in particular Chemistry.
I have been tutoring privately for about 25 years in Chemistry A-Level, GCSE Sciences and Maths, and have also coached for 11-plus. I prefer to work from home as I have resources to hand, and am more than happy to offer tuition via Google Meet, Zoom or Skype.

Tutoring Approach

I have for many years demonstrated my ability to enthuse and educate students to achieve their very best. I enjoy being able to go deeper into a subject in order to pass on understanding rather than focusing on rote learning, but equally I understand the importance of well developed exam technique in order to achieve ones very best.

I have experience working online with classes and individuals during the pandemic, and have adapted many key resources for use online and with Google Classroom. My home office is equipped with a visualiser webcam allowing me to demonstrate written work and diagrams or graphics, as well facilitating using a whiteboard for effective online learning. I currently offer online tuition via Google Meet, Zoom or Skype, which means I'm available, regardless of your location. I am happy to take on international tutees following UK exam syllabi.
