I'm a qualified teacher (11-18) with over 20 years experience. I've worked as an A Level and GCSE examiner and Head of Philosophy and Religious Studies. As a parent I understand the stress and pressure that students can experience on their learning journey. My personal philosophy is rooted in self-development and facilitating others to learn.
I enjoy travel, reading and walking. I am a diligent martial artist, a keen musician and have worked as a copywriter and trade union caseworker.
I was designated as an 'Outstanding' teacher by Ofsted in October 2013 and have been part of successful teams in two 'Outstanding' schools. As head of Religious Studies, Philosophy & Ethics for five years I gained a wealth of experience teaching A level, GCSE and KS3 RS and Philosophy as well as History and Geography at KS3/4. I've also been teaching A level Sociology since 2006. I have enjoyed a wide-ranging teaching career, working in a variety of schools. I have an SEN qualification and have worked in pupil referral units.
My approach is very much student-centred. I assess the student's strengths and weaknesses in order to facilitate progress within the context of the learning environment. If public exams are the student's priority I can offer an on-going package of regular support, and / or an intense revision programme as exam dates approach. Alternatively I can provide bespoke courses for students who want to proceed at a more leisurely pace.
