I am a very experienced specialist Politics A-Level teacher. Retired from full time teaching but I have been doing support work at my old College and supply for two local Institutions who found themselves in need of a politics teacher in the run up to the exams. Since retiring I have also worked promoting and doing the sound for local music events. There has been a fair amount of relaxing in the garden, reading and long walks with our dog as well.

Tutoring Experience

I spent 18 years teaching Politics and Sociology A-Level at the highly successful Greenhead College Huddersfield. Before that I worked for 12 years at Wakefield College teaching A-Levels but also working on teacher training, developing educational multimedia and as a tutor. I spent many years examining from different exam boards and am well used to interpreting the ever changing demands of different exam boards.
In recent years I have taken over the politics department at two local sixth forms when they had staffing issues in the run up to the exams. In 2022 at New College Huddersfield and in 2024 at Mirfield Free Grammar. Both Sixth Forms were delighted with the results obtained by students as they far exceeded their expectations. I have also been doing support tutoring at Greenhead College.

In tandem with this I have been giving online lessons in both politics and sociology and the students and their parents have been very pleased with the results.

I have a long track record of getting excellent results from students with a reputation for giving enjoyable lessons while achieving high value added scores.

Tutoring Approach

In teaching I aim to combine a strong focus on the demands of the exam with a highly flexible approach geared to the needs and experience of the student. I use plenty of up to date examples and am well experienced to changing my approach to whatever works best for that student.
