I am passionate about supporting all students to speak, read, write, and analyse texts with confidence. There is nothing more rewarding than helping a young person to unlock their potential and reach their academic goals!
I have taught Key Stage 3, 4, and 5 English for 20 years. I have been a senior leader for 12 years in inner London schools. I have significant experience of teaching students with a range of educational needs as well as those for whom English is not their first language. Alongside this, I have supported many students over the years that have applied to read English at university.
My approach is to use the I, We, You model when planning a session. Research informs us that students learn best from: having access to high quality models (I); practising in small chunks and receiving feedback from the teacher (We); building up to extended writing where they apply their knowledge in specific formats with the teacher's feedback and scaffolding are gradually faded out until knowledge is secure (You).
With every success, motivation increases, and progress is made!
