Hello, I'm Dilaxy and I am a Biomedical Sciences graduate with an enthusiasm for teaching and learning Maths. I know that Maths can be a challenging subject but I endeavour to make the subject as interesting as possible and I want to work as a team with you to tackle the areas you'd like some assistance with. As a tutor, it is my role not only to teach you but also to teach myself. I am very interested in learning about education and learning techniques to support you in new and innovative ways.
I have been involved within the education sector for over 8 years and I have experience supporting children directly in schools from nursery to the end of secondary school. I have experience in being a teaching assistant for primary school children, where I assisted teachers in the classroom especially with Maths and English lessons. From there, I started mentoring secondary school pupils in English, focusing on reading, spelling and literary techniques that pupils can utilise in their own writing. My biggest chunk of experiences comes from being an online tutor at Explore Learning, where I was tutoring Maths, English, Creative Writing and 11+ to children aged from 5-14 and at Action Tutoring, tutoring GCSE Maths to year 11 students. Through this I have accumulated over 500 hours of experience.
My biggest lessons from tutoring is that everyone learns differently and so I strive to create tailored lessons which helps you engage the best. My approach to Maths is practice and spaced repetition. I have noticed so many times pupils understanding a topic really well and being able to answer questions but then when re-encountered, they struggle to remember how to do them. With spaced repetition, we will revisit previous topics frequently to ensure memory of them. After all my tutoring sessions, I have a feedback session to discuss what we have learnt and what we need to work on and I create a summary as material for the next lesson plan. From my tutoring sessions, I have received excellent feedback from pupils, their parents and also their school teachers. We have seen remarkable progress with tangible results in not only a pupil's knowledge but also in their motivation to continue learning.
