Hi ! My name is Diya and I am a first year English student at UCL.
English has always been my passion. Literature is vital in everyday life, every word we say (or type nowadays!) forms a giant text that is personal to us, and I love the craft of analysing it! English is full of opportunities to understand ourselves and those around us better, creating a world of empathy and diversity.
I am excited to help students excel and reach their full potential. English is a completely creative subject, with no correct answer, I hope to enlighten students to the boundless possibilities that English entails. I will tailor my sessions to the student's academic needs, but also ensure that they leave with not only good grades, but a new love for literary problem-solving, giving them an emotionally enhanced perspective of the world.
French is vital to the workings of our world, and I am excited to offer tutoring for these languages too! I have previously helped many GCSE French students bump up their grades and even move into the Higher course. I equally have a passion for the Dramatic Arts and am excited to offer tutoring in Drama, with focus on the final written exam.
I have been tutoring for over a year, and have helped students bump up their grades significantly, supporting their entry into A Levels and their university applications.
My lessons will be completely adaptable to my student's needs, as I believe students respond best to tutoring that is tailored to their specific learning style.
I specialise in :
English GCSE
Texts including: Lord of the Flies, Macbeth, Romeo & Juliet, An Inspector Calls, Power & Conflict Poetry
English A Level
Texts including: Othello, The Handmaid's Tale, William Blake Poetry, Keats Poetry, Death of a Salesman, A Streetcar Named Desire, Beloved
Drama GCSE & A Level
French GCSE & A Level
Spanish GCSE
I understand that nowadays it is harder to encourage students to find the joy in learning, so I hope I will be able to inspire some joy from the process. It is my intention to demonstrate that the difficulty of each subject should not deter a student, but rather intrigue them into learning more.
I achieved A*AB at A level, and Grade 8 & 9 in all subjects I teach at GCSE.
My lessons will be completely adaptable to my student's needs, as I believe students respond best to tutoring that is tailored to their specific learning style. I understand that jumping straight into analysis or verb conjugation can be daunting, so I will always begin with a short subject-based warm up to help encourage and prepare students for the subsequent lesson.
In the first lesson, I will be sure to ascertain any specific details and areas of improvement that the student wishes to focus on during our lessons, and compile a plan of action to make each lesson as valuable and helpful as possible. To measure success, I will periodically drop in mini quizzes that assess knowledge learnt in previous lessons, and also assign mini homework tasks so both I and the student can see a real representation of the progress being made.
I understand that nowadays it is harder to encourage students to find the joy in learning, so I hope I will be able to inspire some joy from the process. It is my intention to demonstrate that the difficulty of each subject should not deter a student, but rather intrigue them into learning more.
