“Eleanor, your time is like gold dust!”

A massive congratulations to my 2023 GCSE students for achieving a 100% pass rate - well done!

“My son achieved two 6s in English Language and Literature. I can’t thank you enough for all your help and support - we couldn’t have got those results without you. He’s got enough to start his course at college, so we are on a massive high. Thanks Eleanor, another one to add to your amazing ‘Winner’s Gallery’. You’re a star!”

My name is Eleanor. I am currently working as an English Intervention Tutor at a local secondary school, based in a specialist ASD provision. My work within the specialist centre has given me experience and training in teaching students with a variety of SEN needs, including: ASD, ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia, anxiety.

I also offer private home tuition and have been tutoring for over ten years. Prior to this I taught English, Maths and History at a local independent school. In my GCSE's I achieved 12 A*-A grades including English, Maths and Science. In my A Levels I achieved 4 A's including English Literature. I have a real passion for tutoring and feel it should be an enjoyable and rewarding experience for both the tutor and the tutee.

Tutoring Experience

I currently teach English on a one-to-one and small group basis at a local secondary school. Prior to this, I tutored at one of the leading tuition centres in the UK for eight years. My job title was 'Senior English Tutor' and I was responsible for planning, organising and marking the students work from ages 4-16. Prior to this I taught English, history and mathematics at a local independent school. I have been a private tutor for over ten years, specialising in GCSE English Literature and Language. All of the GCSE students that I have taught have significantly improved their grades. Their parents often comment on how much their motivation and confidence have also increased. One of my recent students improved his predicted English GCSE grade from a '3' to a '6' in just two terms. He then went on to secure a level '6' grade in his English GCSE. Another of my recent students achieved 8's in both her English Literature and Language GCSE's, having been previously predicted grade 4. I am up-to-date with the GCSE syllabus and the current 9-1 grade boundaries.

In addition to my GCSE students, I am currently tutoring several students in English and Maths at primary school level. One of my recent primary students was predicted below average in her English Key Stage 2 SATs. After working together she went on to achieve a score of ‘exceeding expectations’ for her year group, with a mark of 110.

Aside from the standard National Curriculum subjects, I also specialise in preparing students for the 11+. In the most recent set of examinations, all of my 11+ tutees successfully passed and went on to secure places at their chosen schools. My students have received offers from the following local schools: Guildford High, Royal Grammar School, Tormead, St. Catherine's, Prior's Field, St. Edmund's, King Edward's, Churcher's College. I have also tutored students who have received offers from highly esteemed grammar schools further into Surrey and London: Tiffin, Nonsuch, Wallington, Wilsons.

Tutoring Approach

My first session with a tutee will involve getting to know the student and their individual needs. On the first visit I carry out a formal assessment to identify any gaps, strengths and weaknesses and plan work accordingly thereafter. All of my sessions follow the national curriculum and examination board specifications. For students at GCSE level we will be going through past papers, content, exam techniques and essay writing. For children at primary school level my sessions are engaging and interactive whilst sticking to the syllabus. This might include doing fun activities like adjective or number games, which will make the sessions enjoyable whilst keeping them relevant and focused.
