Katie Emilia

Hi, I'm Emilia, a current UCL student studying Biomedical Sciences. I studied Biology, Chemistry and Maths A-levels and achieved A*s in all of these subjects. I completed an EPQ, which I achieved an A* in as well. At GCSE I achieved 9s in all of the subjects I took (a total of 9 subjects), including my taught subjects, and a Distinction in Additional Mathematics. I received offers from Warwick, King's College London, Southampton, and Newcastle when I applied for university.

Tutoring Experience

Although I have no formal experience in tutoring, my classmates have often turned to me for help in our subjects and general study advice. I also have a 13 year old brother who I regularly tutor for Maths in an informal way. I believe that I can be of great help to any young secondary school student with my academic achievements in combination with my work ethic and genuine desire to make this tricky stage of schooling a little easier.

Tutoring Approach

I like to have a personalised approach to teaching as each student has individual learning styles so should have individual learning plans. I start off the first few sessions informally assessing the student using exam style questions of topics they have covered, helping them when they find questions tricky and making notes about which topics they find harder. Then I plan future sessions dedicated to those specific topics, which include me explaining the topic integrated with me testing the student's understanding. Every now and then I will reassess the student like I did with the first few sessions. This is the general plan and reflects how I used to study as a student but I might change this if the student responds to certain parts of this plan better than others and optimise it for them.
