Emily

Having graduated from Imperial College London and University College London, specialising in biomedical sciences and immunology, I am now undertaking a PhD in public health and health data at Queen Mary University of London. I am extremely passionate about learning and teaching, researching new concepts and translating them into understandable and engaging language is something that really excites me. I gain great motivation and enjoyment from getting people as enthusiastic as I am about learning.

Tutoring Experience

Although biology and health sciences are my specialty, I'm a confident mathematician and thoroughly enjoyed A-level maths, as well as the use of maths in biology. I am also a published author with a 15,000 word literature review in Immunological Reviews; I researched and wrote this paper for almost a year, gaining priceless experience in English and writing. On the teaching side, I have created content and held study sessions for my peers during exam season in university, and I have tutored students at primary, GCSE, A-level, and university level.

I have a great passion for science communication and have pursued and practiced this by co-founding and chairing a knowledge-based society at Imperial.

Tutoring Approach

I take an approach that is wholly focused on the student, I use an introductory session to gauge the gaps in knowledge and overall aims, then I use targeted questions, content, and exam practice. I teach how I would like to learn: I believe that fundamental understanding is the key to success - it nourishes curiosity and enjoyment - the highest marks can then be built on this.
