I am an experienced tutor and an academic with a background in Higher Education and 11 plus as well as GCSE and A-level tutoring. I have a high success rate preparing 11 plus students for highly selective grammar and independent schools and have also supported many students through GCSE and A-Levels. I also support university students with philosophy and English Literature studies. I have a doctorate in English literature and have taught undergraduate students at university. I greatly enjoy teaching and at all levels and helping my students reach their full potential. In my spare time I write published works about science fiction, feminism and philosophy. I recently published a book, The Biopolitics of Gender in Science Fiction: Feminism and Female Machines.

Tutoring Experience

I am an experienced tutor, teaching at a range of levels including primary, 11 plus, GCSE, A-level and higher education level. I have prepared 11 plus students for highly competitive London grammar and independent school exams. I have also supported university students with both English literature and theory and philosophy modules. I also have university teaching experience: for three consecutive terms I taught on two English literature modules, one theory-based, one devoted to London literature at Brunel University

Tutoring Approach

My tutoring approach is to take the stress out of learning for my students. I create a safe environment that is high achieving but where my pupils feel they can make mistakes and learn from them. I use a thorough, step by step approach so that my students learn the fundamentals of a subject. I focus on teaching my students how to appreciate and enjoy a subject as much as exam technique and revision. I strive to build my students' confidence and to incorporate their interests and passions in lessons in order to make subjects fun and engaging.
