Emily

I’m Emily and I’ve been tutoring for two years specialising in humanities subjects. I’m a diligent and pragmatic teacher who strives for students to grow their confidence in academia. I’m currently studying to complete my Masters qualification in Manchester and therefore understand the importance guidance in education outside of schooling hours.

Tutoring Experience

• I am a PASS coordinator at my university, which is an internationally recognise scheme, so I have experience in facilitating and encouraging students in groups and in 1-1 sessions.
• Two years experience of tutoring GCSE English Literature, Religious Studies, History and A level Sociology
• Experience in leading student groups, conducting research and directing workshop groups
• Familiar with the GCSE specification as my GCSEs were also of the 9-1 grading system

Tutoring Approach

I really keen for students to learn by practice. I believe the more you do something the more it sticks with you. I allow the student to work their way through practice questions, and after go through what they have written and explain what they’ve done well and where they can improve. I ensure to find out what the student is already familiar with and well practiced at, and praise them for doing well. If the student is particularly struggling in certain area I am more than happy to dedicate sessions to explaining and understanding the topic, and would do this with a mix of practice questions, theory based work and testing.
