Hi I'm Emily, a writer, linguist, musician and tutor! I recently graduated from University College London (UCL) with a degree in French and Spanish and have just completed my MA in music and production at London's Tileyard Studios. I believe that having a curious mind is one of the most important things in life and try to acquire knowledge everywhere I go, whether this involves picking up a few words in a new language whilst travelling, or watching science documentaries. I have been tutoring a range of subjects for five years, from 11+ coaching to A Level Spanish and my wide ranging interests mean I always find common ground with my students.
I have been tutoring for the past five years, working for some of London's top tutoring agencies. These are the subjects I specialise in:
11+ Preparation
I am currently coaching six students in preparation for entry into some of the country’s top schools. Lessons concentrate on English, maths, non-verbal and verbal reasoning practice.
13+ and Scholarship Preparation
Over the past year I have been coaching a student for entry into Winchester College, who passed all exams entering into top sets.
Spanish
I teach Spanish up to A Level. My past clients include an A Level student and a GCSE student who both went on to achieve A* equivalent grades in their exams. I also hold conversation classes for mature students.
French
I have tutored French from KS2 – IB/ A Level and currently teach IB level grammar and conversation classes.
English
Over the past year I have coached two separate students in English Language GCSE. I also have experience teaching students English as a foreign language:
Music
I am currently teaching one student ABRSM Grade 2 singing and incorporate music into many of my lessons, particularly with my younger students.
Maths
I teach maths up to GCSE and am familiar with both the IGCSE and GCSE syllabus.
I aim to foster a sense of curiosity in all my tutees by engaging with their own interests to bring traditional academic subjects to life. Having studied in 3 different countries over the past couple of years with students from all over the world, I am aware of the importance of clarity and positivity in a learning environment, as well as the diverse ways we can learn. The encouraging attitude of my own teachers has enabled me to do things that I would never think possible and I aim to reflect this in my own teaching methods by celebrating the personal achievements of my students. In my classes, we focus on a close study of the syllabus and past papers whilst integrating more creative tasks. I equip students with all the tools they need to realise their academic potential and to achieve to the best of their abilities, and I aim to do this within a supportive, secure and enjoyable environment.
