I have a PhD in particle physics from the University of Edinburgh. I spent several years at CERN in Geneva as a physics researcher, after which I returned to beautiful Scotland. I now work remotely as a data scientist with the BBC and continue to tutor in physics and maths to a small group of students each academic year.
I enjoy teaching and the process of transferring knowledge and helping students to achieve their fullest potential. It continues to be incredibly rewarding to work with students who are initially struggling but eventually have that light bulb moment when they get it.
I was an A* student and National Physics Olympiad golden medalist (in my home country) myself, when I was in high school, so know precisely what it takes.
I have tutored since my undergraduate years, offering one-to-one tutoring in physics and maths at A-level, GCSE and Secondary (mainly using a competitor to 'First tutors' website before). I also worked as a university teaching assistant. All the students I have worked with, who persevered, have succeeded in achieving their academic goals.
Specific examples of goals I have helped with:
✅ Raising grades to A-A* despite starting point.
✅ Getting into universities, which require As and A*s only, such as Cambridge & Oxford, Imperial, Edinburgh and others depending on subject.
✅ Preparing for interviews.
My proudest moment as a teacher:
✅ A student requested tutoring for his second year university statistics exam, which I initially rejected, as statistics was not one of my offered subjects. He explained he is desperate, as he failed the exam twice. We worked for one academic year, he sat it again and achieved a first!
Gentle discipline and a personal approach, depending on what works best for the student. I do not believe in genius, only in hard work and persistence.
I also strongly disagree with making educational excellence unattainable to most. This is the reasoning behind the prices for my lessons.
