I have successfully completed my degree in French and Spanish Language (with year abroad) at the University of York and am in the process of applying for a masters in the Moorish architecture of Spain, in Granada next year.
Last year, as part of my degree, I was lucky enough to go on a year abroad, which greatly improved my fluency in French and Spanish. I studied at the University of Aix-En-Provence, in the south of France (near Marseille) for 5 months. For the second half of the year I lived in a small town outside of Buenos Aires with a local family, where I worked as an English language teacher for the Teach Argentina. My job entailed teaching all ages (from children to adults), English. Thanks to this opportunity, I gained plenty of experience working with children in the classroom.
As a language student, I am passionate about exploring new countries and their cultures and interacting with the local people in their dialect. Furthermore, I appreciate the difficulties that a foreign language poses for a non-native speaker.
As a tutor, I wish to share my knowledge of languages with my students so that they gain the valuable skill of learning a language. Most importantly, however, I strive to pass on my love of languages!
On a personal note, I am a friendly and approachable person who enjoys working with others. And, when I am not engrossed in learning languages, I enjoy dancing salsa, going to the West End, and watching movies!
I have experience of tutoring in the past, tutoring a student in Spanish in preparation for her GCSE exams. I had to prepare materials before each session and prioritise those areas where she needed the most help, as well as manage my time efficiently.
As well as my language modules, in my second year of university I studied TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language I) where I learnt about language learning methods, the aspects of the English language which pose difficulties for foreign learners, and how to explain the mistakes made by foreign learners in the language learning process.
Recently having been through the education system myself, I remember the challenges which I faced in the language learning process and the best ways to overcome them.
As a teacher, I am engaging and fun and will ensure my students work to their full potential!!
I use a variety of resources which aim to stimulate my students, and in this way enabling them to develop their language skills.
