I am a fully qualified secondary physics teacher and Head of Science at Hall Cross Academy in Doncaster. I teach physics across the age range upto A level and also teach general science to GCSE. I hold a 1st class honours degree in Secondary Science Education from Sheffield Hallam University. Prior to being a teacher I worked with underprivileged children/young adults and, as such, have excellent interpersonal skills which allow me to work effectively with a wide range of backgrounds.

I am also running group GCSE sessions at £12 per hour. Maximum of 6 students per group. This can be helpful as students can work in collaboration which has been shown to be an effective method of retention. Please specify whether you want group or private sessions.

Tutoring Experience

I have been teaching general science with physics as a specialism for 12 years up to GCSE and A level. I was promoted early in my career to Lead Teacher which involved running intervention with students who were underperforming. This has led me to develop a wide range of strategies to engage and enthuse students who may be struggling to access the curriculum and achieve their potential.

Tutoring Approach

I spend some time with my students analysing the barriers to learning to enable me to develop a strategic plan of action. I have excellent questioning skills that allow me to unpick any misconceptions, identify gaps and develop understanding, this not only allows students to gain a deeper understanding of the content but also builds confidence: this is often one of the biggest barriers to learning. I use plenty of past paper questions to ensure students are able to apply the things they have learnt, develop the skills that will allow them to be successful and approach their examinations with the right mindset to attain the best grades they can.
