Fernando

Hello! Hola! My name is Fernando Castellano and I am a Spanish teacher. Born in Valencia (Spain), I have completed my degree in English Studies and I have a Master's in Second Language Acquisition. I am currently employed in Higher Education and I am working on my PhD thesis. I have also received specific training in Spanish as a Foreign Language at institutions like Instituto Cervantes or European University of Madrid.

I have been working as a Teacher of Spanish for five years now, and I hope to keep doing it for many more. I have experience working in Higher Education, preparing for GSCE and A-Levels Spanish, both 1:1 and in groups.

Tutoring Experience

I have been working as a Teacher of Spanish in the following places:
- Coventry University (from Oct. 2016 to May 2017).
- Fundación CEPAIM (from Oct. 2017 to Aug. 2019).
- Warwickshire College Group (from Sept. 2019 to December 2020).
- The University of Birmingham (from September 2021 to July 2023)

Since January 2021, I am employed part time at Aberystwyth University as a tutor of Spanish.

Apart from that, I have worked as Teacher of ESL (English as a Second Language) Helen Doron Picanya since March 2018 to July 2019. Experience with children, teeangers and adults.

Tutoring Approach

As a tutor, I try to be flexible in my approach to adapt to my students' needs. Most of the time I try to be as clear as possible in the explanation of the grammar so it serves a purpose communicatively. Therefore, I put an emphasis on grammar and communicative practice, both related to one another.
However, my main approach is listening to the students' needs. My main objective is to make my lessons engaging and interesting, always specially tailored for the needs of the students.
I can either bring my own teaching material or use that of the student.
