I have 9 years experience teaching Secondary school Science/Chemistry in the UK state and private sector. At present, I am taking a leave of absence from teaching due to relocation, but I will be getting back into the classroom soon. In the mean time I am offering private tutoring, online.

I am a patient and adaptable tutor and more than willing to work with the specific needs of the tutee. I have a wealth of experience teaching in different schools and as Head of Chemistry in a highly successful Mixed State school. I have taught the following subjects: Physics, Chemistry and Biology at GCSE (Covering OCR, AQA and IGCSE), AS and A2 Chemistry (OCR, AQA, IB and EDEXCEL). I am also a qualified and experienced teacher of English as a Foreign Language.

Tutoring Experience

In my teaching experience I have had the opportunity to teach students with a broad range of abilities. Working in the state sector gave me the opportunity to teach less able students who struggled with the abstract context of Science and high mathematical demand. I have become adept at differentiating and breaking down explanations to help students better access the material. Many students I have taught and tutored have commented on how accessible and enjoyable my teaching style is. I have also had the opportunity to teach students of the highest calibre both at GCSE and A level. Several of my A level students have achieved top grades in Chemistry and moved on to study at Oxford and Cambridge or get in to Veterinary or Medical degrees.

Tutoring Approach

My primary role as a tutor is to understand the needs of the tutee and work together with them helping them to best achieve their goals. I will support them in increasing subject knowledge and depth of understanding, supporting them in applying this knowledge to successfully answer exam questions and furthermore increase their confidence.

Each lesson and teaching style is tailored to the students needs. Whilst helping with subject content I have also supported tutees develop revision plans and write personal statements/support with university applications and interviews.
I am well-resourced to provide learning exercises and offer lots of examination style question practice.

Each session will be held on google meet and does not require the tutee to have a google mail address but this has an excellent whiteboard facility, making learning interactive and adaptable to the tutees needs.
