I am an experienced Oxford Graduate currently beginning a Masters Degree at Brasenose College, with over 300 hours of tutoring and teaching experience over the course of over three years.
I have over 300 hours tutoring students with a major tutoring platform, much of it focused on preparing them for Oxford via my own detailed knowledge of the application process, based on a personalised programme favouring active techniques and students' participation. This has especially focused on Latin and Greek preparation for Oxford's demanding linguistic programme, all the way from basic language knowledge to reading complex prose and verse together with students. I have also provided courses in ancient history, philosophy and literature, as well as preparing students for Classical Civilisation courses, working with a broad set of interests and fields. Furthermore, in over 40 hours of teaching at an intensive Oxford preparation programme this Summer, I was able to provide students with support in learning about politics, debating and public speaking, using my own experience as President of Europe's largest student political society over the course of over half a year, where I was able to interview over two dozen speakers, including an ex-Prime Minister, and organise events for up a thousand people. Meanwhile, my work in a Japanese Summer programme, as well as two weeks at the Immerse Summer school at Oxford, have given me dozens of hours of valuable, hands-on experience, all related to preparation for the world's best universities, including to those for whom English is not a first language. Finally, working with my Oxford College to raise thousands of pounds from major donors three years in a row has helped further support my excellent communication skills and professional approach. I have completed Level 1 British Council Accredited Safeguarding Training, ensuring I am sensitive to any issues with student welfare that might arise over the course of a lesson.
My approach to language learning is based on a combination of the active method pioneered by Hans Henning Ørberg, with which my teaching was conducted at Oxford, with constant grammar work to ensure fluency is acquired as quickly as possible while always retaining a firm foundation. I am especially prepared for Classical Civilisation and History teaching, meanwhile, by the broad range of history papers I tackled at Greats, which helped me get accepted onto my Masters degree with the History faculty, at Brasenose College, Oxford. I have read very broadly about the ancient world and have hands-on experience teaching courses about subjects ranging from Livy's account of the early development of the Roman Republic, through Hellenistic Kingdoms and the reign of Alexander, all the way up to the development of the late Empire and its eventual collapse.
